About
Born and raised on the (tiny) Mediterranean island of Malta 🌞🌊 I’ve bounced around a lot over the last decade or so, geographically and creatively. After studying Fine Art and Art History and working in art restoration, I stepped away from my pencils for a while and completed a Masters in Arts and the Sacred with the National Gallery and King’s College in London.
Two years into a seven year stint in the frozen prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada, I started creating digital doodles - my version of a diary.
What started as a way of visually chronicling my musings; embracing my inner ramblings, my foreignness in moments when pop culture references went over my head; became a line of tongue-in-cheek greeting cards and prints under the name “island and the prairies”.
I started doing custom work and discovered I was utterly in love with the art of illustration. Now my work can be found on billboards and websites, in magazines and social feeds, on album covers and band tees, and where it all started - on stationery store shelves.
My favourite thing to draw is people, followed closely by carbs. My style is quite versatile: I love learning new techniques and diving into different facets of the art form. Currently obsessed with storyboarding and animation. I’ve evolved from a line-perfectionist who needed cajoling to turn a drawn sketch into a painting, to a full-blown colour fanatic.
I love collaborating - the look on a client’s face (read: email reply) when they see their dream come to pictorial life makes me giddy enough to happy dance.
